Subject: licensed vampires: night watch

Ann posted in her LJ about a Russian movie called Night Watch, & I replied w/a link to this review of it in the current Village Voice. I'd been planning to mention it here, so the easiest thing is to basically cross-post from that earlier comment:

Some choice quotes of particular interest to folks from ATPo:

"Bureaucracy has become metaphysical. [Is that Masq's worst nightmare or what?*] Mysterious 'others' live among us, issuing licenses for other others to operate as vampires."

"Powerful forces subject to arcane rules of engagement struggle to possess the soul of a child.... For much of the movie, the kid is in a trance.... (In his normal state, the lad sits in his single mother's bleak high-rise apartment, mind colonized by the WB, as he watches Buffy on TV.)" @>)

"...this is the funniest apocalypse I've seen since George Romero's Land of the Dead."

I wanna see this![/cross-post] Here in NYC, it's playing at the Landmark Sunshine Theater. Any chance we can get the NY ATPo group together for an expedition? (Maybe I should email the locals instead--I have no feel for how many are still reading the board.)

*I was wrong about this--Masq replied saying her worst nightmare would be "when metaphysics becomes bureaucratized"!
