Subject: Truly Special

I have noticed that there is not much posting here lately (and I usually lurk). Is it me or are the Whedon series truly special? I like good storytelling, and I follow the extant series, or some of them, at least. Even the best of them, including The Sopranos, Lost, and The Shield don't quite have what Buffy or Angel did, from my perspective, at least.

I think some of it was the genius in making the characters seem like real people that we actually developed an affection for. The consistence of a sophisticated underlying philosophy was part of it, too, as were the Shakespearean leaps from humor to tragedy and vice versa.

I just know that I can still go back to my DVDs of either series and enjoy them again, learning something new, possibly, but most certainly, enjoying them again, just like a fine piece of music.

I almost applied for ultimate fan, but too many of you are way ahead of me there. I haven't even got any of the books that discuss the series, but I might as well, as I am obviously a hopeless fan. I'm assuming that the books advertised here are the best, but I would be interested in opinions.
