There is a message on the bulletin board from Claire Vandy regarding her grandfather, Christian Jandebeur, 1828-1872, brother of Michael Joseph Jandebeur, our USA ancestor. I have been in email contact with Claire. It appears that Christian did settle in NY, first using the name Jeandebeure, then changing to Schondebare. There is very little information about Christian, but there are many Schondebares listed on the internet. I do not know how Christian avoided being listed in the census. Claire has a little information on him, but does not know where he is buried and would like to know.

According to Claire, Christian had one son, Joseph, her grandfather, and three daughters, Annie, Josephine and Minnie, all born in the 1860s. Joseph had 2 sons, Gustav and William, and 2 daughters Lillian and Annie, all born between 1899 and 1906.

The above is most of the information I have. I find it very interesting that a rumor of one or two other American brothers has at least some substance. Claire's email address is c.vandy@verizon.net.
