Ok. Here's part four. I didn't have much time to check for mistakes so if you find any, let me know.

Installment 4

Time seemed to slow down. Red held the .357 in his sweaty, shaking hands. He looked down the barrel at the stranger that stood before him. The guy was tall and had a rough look to him. He wore a black t-shirt and a pair of cammo pants. Despite his tough-guy looks he had a shocked expression on his face. Then Red's eyes wandered over to where the guy's vehicle was parked on the side of the road. It was a black Clydesdale, decked out with various weapons and heavy artillery. "Who are you?" Red asked, squinting behind the gun. The guy held his hands up to calm Red. "Easy there son. No need to be pointin' guns" he said with a heavy Texan accent. "The name is Murphy. Iah responded to the SOS old Gus at the Gas for Cash sent out" he explained. "He told me you led them Raiders off. Iah thought you was dead for sure, seein' as you ain't got no weapons on that thing" he said, motioning to the Circlet.

Red relaxed and lowered the gun. "This guy must be a vigilante" Red thought. Red held out an uneasy hand. "I'm Red. I was headed to the Bar-D to find some Autovigilantes. I want to...uh...find out about all the stuff that's been going down here lately." Murphy took Red's hand and shook it. Red almost winced. This guy had a damn firm grip. "Nice to meet ya Red. I'll be glad to tell ya all ya want to know; but the thing is, you ain't going nowhere until your ride's fixed." Murphy started to walk back to his truck. "Hop in. I'll give you a lift. Iah know a place where you can get some rest and a solid meal under your belt. Pardon me sayin' so, but you look like somethin' mah dog chewed up." Red looked at him incredulously. He though it was probably best if he did get some rest and somthing to eat before doing anything.

Red went over to his car and got his duffel bag out of the back. He climbed into Murphy's truck and threw the bag into the back. "Hey, wait a minuet" Red said. "What about my car?" "Don't worry about it" Murphy assured him, picking up the CB mike. "This here's Flak Driver. Iah picked me up a stray. I'm bringing him back to the ranch. Iah also need a mode 2 rendezvous down on route 114. While Dover Circlet needs a tow." They waited a few seconds and the response came back over the speaker. "Roger that Flak Driver. We just picked up a call from Romeo Dare. He wants you to head over to his locale before you leave the area. He's having some difficulties with the mission. Out" Murphy set down the mike. "Sorry about that Red, looks like I'll have to make one more stop before I can drop ya off." Murphy shifted gears and pulled out onto the road. The massive engine of the truck rumbled and they took off down the highway.

At that moment, on a hillside far away, someone looked on with a pair of binoculars. He was very, very angry and cringed at what he was. He spoke into his CB mike. "We got a confirmed kill. Brother Raider's 105 and 109 are dead. That interfering shitbag in the Dover took ‘em out with a handgun. It looks like the damn AVG is involved too." At this time and equally angered response came back. "Copy that brother. The Raider Vandals ain't gonna rest until we get our revenge on him and the AVG. Those vigilantes have been messing with our business for too long. For now, just follow them at a distance. I want to contact the other members. I'm sure they'll all want a piece of the action. Out." The Vandal Raider spit in the dirt. And kicked the sand with his shoe. "I understand. Over and out" he said as he climbed back into his AMZ. "Flak Driver. Looks like ure finally getting what you deserve."

Red and Murphy cruised down the highway. Red looked around the interior of the Clydesdale. There was jerry rigged electrical equipment and controls attached everywhere. There must have been thousands of dollars in weapons and tracking gear in this truck. "Where did they get this equipment?" he thought. Then Red noticed it was way too quiet. He decided to break the awkward silence. "So, why do you do this?" he said suddenly. "Do what?" Murphy asked back. "You know, drive around and a truck with guns chasing bad guys. What makes you do it?" His face went from a smile to grim expression. Murphy sat there thinking for a minuet, not looking at Red but down the highway. "Ya know, sometimes ya come to a to a point in your life when ya have to make a decision. Do you do what's right, what needs to be done; or do ya do what's easiest, what ever's gonna cover your arse?"

The answer puzzled Red and it didn't really sink in. He was about to ask what he meant by it when the CB interrupted. "Mayday! Mayday! Code sixpack. This is Romeo Dare. The plan's a wash. I need back up now. I'm in Levelland. Hurry" Murphy grabbed the mike. "Roger you Romeo. Don't worry pal, Old Flack Driver's on the way!" Murphy floored it and hurried to get to Levelland before it was too late. He looked over to Red. Red could see the worry in his face. "Whatever is going on..." Red thought to himself. "...It can't be good news."
