Installment 6

Immediately after driving into the battle, Red came under fire. Literally. While he was trying to target one of Lead Sled's punks, one of them managed to sneak up behind him in a brown Strider. When he got close enough, the creeper began to spray Red with flaming napalm. The damage display lit up and a warning buzzer sounded. "Christ!" Red exclaimed as he saw it in the rear view mirror. Frantically he hit a button labelled "Rear Dropper" and hoped it meant what he thought it did.

Sure enough, three landmines dropped out of a slot at the back of the Clydesdale. Cutting off his attack, the driver tried to swerve and miss the mines but he was too close. The Strider's front tire made contact and the mine exploded in a ball of flame. The car rose six feet in the air and slammed back down with a jolt. The blast had taken out the car's engine, suspension and most of the front end. Red then circled around the wrecked Strider, pulled out his .357 and began to shoot at the windows. Panicking, the driver bolted from the heap of twisted metal and ran off to hide in the brush. "Good" Red thought to himself. "One down and three to go."

Next Red set his sights on a crimson Rattler. He could clearly see the name printed on the side.
‘Lead Sled.' "So, it's the leader himself" Red thought. "Time to take him down." Red switched to the two top mounted 20mm cannons. In just a second Red had a lock on the enemy car and
began blasting away with the guns. Red managed to land a few hits on Lead Sled before the creeper made a sharp turn and drove away from the fight. Red laughed out loud. "Take that, punk!". Red was about to attack another creeper when he realised what Lead Sled was doing. He was going after Murphy and Romeo dare!

Leaving the melee behind, Red chased after the gang leader. Still with a lock on him, Red prepared to fire a Cherub missile at Lead Sled. The only problem was that Lead Sled was weaving between the garages and buildings that made up the gang's hideout. Still racing, Lead Sled cleared the thick of buildings and now he had a clear view of Murphy and Romeo, still prepping the explosives. "That bastard vigilante is gonna die for double crossing us." Lead Sled switched over to his 30cal machine gun. He wanted this to be slow and painful. His finger reached up to pull the trigger. Suddenly: beep beep beep! The little warning sound went off. "What!?" he thought. "Uh oh!" Lead Sled dove from his car just as the powerful mini missile made contact. With one hit, the car made an even bigger explosion than the Cavera at the gas for cash.

"Phew! That was close" Red thought. Just as he was starting to relax, he saw Romeo Dare and Murphy jump into his Lightning. A split second later, Murphy's voice came over the CB. "Ok boys, we got one hell of a party favour coming up. Let's haul ass! Yeeha!." With that, Red, Murphy, Romeo and the rest of the vigilantes turned tail and sped off in the direction of Levelland.

They people of Levelland were just beginning to get out of bed when group of vehicles roared through their small town. The people who weren't woken up by that, were knocked out of bed a moment later by a huge blast and subsequent shockwave. Instead of the usual desert sunrise, this morning the people of Levelland were greeted by the sight of a 50 foot mushroom cloud and towering plume of smoke that marked the remains of the gang that had tormented them for months.

Meanwhile, down the highway, Red was trailing the convoy of vigilante vehicles heading home. "Ya did good son. Iah couldn't done a better job mahself." Murphy said over the CB. Red picked up his. "Thanks. Uh, I don't really know what to do now. I need a place to stay ‘till my car's fixed." Murphy came back over the CB. "Don't worry. Iah said old Murphy'll take care of it." Red set the mike down and leaned back in the leather seat. "Yeah" he thought. "I could get used to this."
