Subject: Hallowed Halls

*The squirrel, fairly older since his last visit, enters through the wide doors of the Abbey. The hall appears to be deserted; the abbey is cold, the candles have burned themselves out. Everything is covered with dust, and a cloud of gloom sits over the hall as the sharp winter wind whistles outside and in through the still-open doors, stirring old parchment rolls lying on a nearby wooden table.

Nuttimer Bushtail, for this is the visitor, sits down and shuffles the parchment with numb paws. It has been nearly a year since laughter was heard in the great Abbey. He speaks quiety to himself*

What's become of the otter and mole that struck out on their own to settle this empty place? Why is it that magnificence fades so?

*Struck by the injustice of it all, the lingering visitor throws aside the parchment and buries his face in his paws.

*A ferret, garbed in fairly flashy clothing, including a shimmery cape and a large, floppy hat with a huge feather, wanders into the hall, never realizing that a squirrel followed this same path almost a year ago. Mickle looks around sadly at the place that was his home for so long after his fleeing of Redwall.
