Subject: confirmation/standard=potential

Terry has said it as plain as You can and I just don't see any communication problem. But for another time that I always hope will be the last and know never will be, I will say it in Ed's nice english.
Confirmation means psysiology. If the Boerboel is built correctly, that is to say if his body is put together (the whole body)correctly, then the potential for the greatest and best range of body movement (all over) is there. Barring genetic defects that none of us can be sure of. Dogs built differently may exceed in some areas, but logic and fact dictate that other areas will be less or suffer for that difference. Therefore We work for the best overall body confirmation for the best overall movement and function. That to my mind is trying your best to breed the best, at least the best potential.
Standard is what do we want the breed to look like and represent to all of us. Is it a big mastiff type dog or is it a big old hound?? Therefore the Breed standard is also of extreme importance. The standard has turned out to be largely political and thus has been an everchanging aimless, endless argument, largely dependent on what people will buy and spend big bucks on. So the standard in the absence of someone with a true vision who will stand up and make the decision for what is best for this animal and it's ability to function as historically designed by nature and the people it served, means little but food for constant argument.
I got into Boerboels because it was a dog LIKE a Bull mastiff or Rottweiler etc., etc. not a low barrel shaped dog with a long snout or any of the other deviations I have seen in the last 3 years. I read the Standard, learned about the confirmation and saw just what I was looking for in a large strong dog. My Damn mind has not changed or moved and believe me folks, it ain't about to. Like I have said before, I have had pitts, Rotts, Currs, American BD's, and any host of large hounds and mixes. I was a Hog hunter and totally obsessed. These dogs, (Boerboels), can do the job and anything else I have tried to teach them as well or better than most if not all the varietys I have had.
Now everyone can complain about EVERYTHING Boerboel, and talk looks /function/ polka dots, who the hell cares what. Turn this dog into anything other than Boerboel and even if it shits gold, You can keep it. Confirmation/ Standard equal potential. What You do with that or can do with that is your own business, but don't waste my time trying to change this breed to another. The MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE is now and has been Health and Genetic Heredity and how to work to improve that. All this other pitter/patter is just so much BS to me and has already wasted too much of my time just writing this. And ofcourse, This is only My opinion!! Ed Davis
