A free html editor is very good. But as I read, now XHTML and XML are taking over as the web standards. HTML is more for text and simple images, which is no longer sufficient.

A nice tool you might want to get is Dreamweaver. It is not free, but is one of the most sophisticated softwares for webpage design. Even people with no HTML experience, but with a very good eye, can produce professional-looking websites. My groupmates who didn't know HTML (and still do not know HTML) used it to create beautiful webpages with neat HTML sourcecodes, which I could edit using my poor little Notepad. I haven't used Dreamweaver before because my computer is too full of software, and has no space for this cool program. But one fine day, I'm going to find it and try it out.

What kind of webpage do you plan to create? What stuff do you want on the webpage? I remember your neat little webpage about Pferd.... yes! I am learning a little German, but progressing very slowly. Now I only know some nouns such as "Flugzeug", "Hund", "Vogel", "Katze" etc. But nevermind, I can say "cat" in German!!! Hmm... how about the washroom? That's very important indeed!
