Funerals are expensive so maybe she couldn't afford one? My one aunt didn't have a funeral - there was bad blood between her and my other aunt and she didn't want her to be there and making a fuss so she had my cousins promise there wouldn't be one or she would haunt them! Other people have memorial services at a later date. There never was anything for my aunt. Just be there for your friend - take her out to dinner some times, ask what she needs you to do for her, etc...
