A while ago I looked for an easy way to satisfy a muffler rule if we were ever required to use them. One solution I found was an older 2.25" core Kerker Competition baffle. It bolted right into my old V&H Sidewinder with a wrap of fiberglass for insurance. I tried it out and on my 1238cc 2-valve Suzuki it ran 9.58 sec. at about 136 mph. I took out the baffle and on the next run went 9.57 sec. at 137+ mph. The sound was definitely down and should satisfy any muffler rule that comes up. Some of the guys I race with are using the Dyna-Flow bullet mufflers on their mid-eight second machines with little or no effect on performance. The just replace the megaphone with the muffler and a short piece of exhaust pipe. Not pretty but it works, so it definitely can be done if and when it becomes necessary. V&H also sells a 2" competition baffle for $29 or so that could be adapted to fit in most megaphones with a little ingenuity.
