Date Posted: 05:37:59 09/14/07 Fri When non-English speaking speedway rider, Matej Kus, 18, from the Czech Republic crashed during a meeting and another rider rode over his head, no-one expected him to wake up… speaking perfect English. Team manager Peter Waite said Kus “sounded like a newsreader”. Sadly, this newfound ability was short-lived. Once Kus regained his memory, his commend of English was lost. Speaking through an interpreter, Kus said: "There must be some English deep in my head…Hopefully I can pick some English up so I'll be able to speak it without someone having to hit me over the head." Doctors said Kus’ new skill was due Foreign Accent Syndrome, a rare condition where a blow to the head damages the parts of the brain that control speech.
