Date Posted: 11:07:32 10/17/07 Wed Mondello Park has decided not to take up the option of running a BSB round for 2008, ending a five-year association. Cost is the deciding factor; it costs Mondello Park more to host a round than any other UK circuit, added to teams looking to reduce the number of races for budget purposes. Failte Ireland has also withdrawn it’s funding of the BSB teams’ travel expenses Mondello Park’s Managing Director, John Morris said; “Obviously we’re very disappointed, but we could never have hosted BSB without Failte Ireland. There is a great spin off for the local community and I’m as disappointed for them as for ourselves and the many Irish and UK fans of the Mondello event. However, Mondello Park is a business and it’s a commercial reality that we cannot run events that either lose money, or are simply too marginal to take the risk.” Mondello Park will look to see if there is a way back in 2009, but in the meantime is considering the possibility of running a big prize money open event on the Sunday before the NW200, in order to keep a major event at the circuit [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
