Date Posted: 05:36:57 01/02/08 Wed According to the Compendium of Motorcycle Statistics, released by the Department of Transport in December 2007 – an annual set of figures released by the government - motorcycle traffic logged on main roads in the UK by cameras, and manned traffic counting points, rose by 37% from 1996-2006. During the same period, 6151 killed or seriously injured (KSI) incidents were recorded in 2006, compared to 5717 in 1996, a rise of just 8%. In fact, the overall casualty rate for motorcycles has improved; the KSI rate was 27% lower in 2006 than it was in 1994.
