Date Posted: 05:23:29 01/03/07 Wed Westminster Council has announced an end to free parking for motorcycles, in the face of demand for more spaces! Many workers opted for two wheels to avoid the congestion charge. But the demand for parking spaces has outstripped supply. The Council is considering a £1.50 daily charge - or a £150 yearly season ticket – to allow riders to park anywhere in central London. A spokesman said the move was needed to pay for work to increase the number of parking bays. He said: "We need to put in extra spaces but it's going to cost us £1million to do it. We're planning to increase the number of spaces on the street, offstreet parking and security rails for bikes over the next six months, but the charges will only be brought in when we have provided a considerable number of extra parking spaces."
