When Michael Bailey went for a ride on his V-Rod in Winnipeg, little did he realise he was breaking a little known ordinance… because he was wearing the wrong kind of flip-flop!

Bailey was given a warning by police, for wearing flip-flops without rear straps to hold them on. Bailey said "This is the law, but I certainly hadn't heard of it." Fortunately for Bailey, a local bar was able to give him some string to fasten the flip-flops in such a way that the arresting officer would allow him to ride his bike.

Manitoba Public Insurance spokesman Brian Smiley added footwear has no role in how a payout is decided in the event of a claim; "It has no consequence in terms of an accident. If they're injured, we're going to look after their bodily injury. It would have no bearing on the insurance coverage - as long as they have a valid licence."

Winnipeg police declined to comment.
