Date Posted: 05:34:34 07/29/08 Tue The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI), with the support of the BMF and MAG, has called for the introduction of the new motorcycle test to be delayed for six months. The new test – due to be brought in on 29th September 2008, requires a number of manoeuvres that have to be performed in excess of 30mph, making them illegal on public highways where they have traditionally been performed. To cater for this, new test centres are being built. But the DSA is concentrating bike test to 60 multi-purpose centres – a reduction of 80% of the present 260 centres that handle bike tests. To make things worse, only 39 test centres will be open ahead of the introduction of the new test. MCI’s Craig Carey-Clinch said: “With the implementation date of the new test only nine weeks away, it is clear that unless action is taken, the whole motorcycle test system will fall into complete chaos, with candidates in many parts of the country unable to secure a motorcycle test.” Adding that the MCI has received information that other member states are applying for a delay, Carey-Clinch commented“The current situation in the UK makes it clear that the notion that the Government should stick by its guns and introduce the new test, as originally planned, is no longer acceptable or reasonable to the industry. To be frank, the UK motorcycle world has lost patience with DSA’s ineptitude and lack of realism on this matter.” [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
