Victoria, Australia: Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas announced a new plan to improve safety for bikers.

The four-year plan will seek to improve rider awareness, skills and knowledge. Also planned is research into the impact of new road space management such as bus lane sharing.

Mr Pallas also announced the allocation of A$6.3 million (£3.25 million) to improve known motorcycle blackspots around the state, the bulk of which will be directed towards upgrading fences and barriers, improving road signage, installing reflective guideposts, line-marking and sealing selected roads

Victoria has an encouraging success rate with their schemes. Since the last scheme as launched in 2002, the State has seen a 41% increase in bikes, but the number of deaths has reduced by 20%.
