Subject: IoM drops permits for green lanes scheme

 Isle of Man transport officials have scrapped plans to introduce a permit system to allow a limited number of off-road bikes on green lanes. Instead, a range of paths will be closed off to motorcycles from 1st November 2009.

The aim is to control the amount of damage done when tracks are at their wettest, said an IoM Department of Transport spokesman. Director of highways Bruce Hannay said: "The department has an ongoing programme of work on the tracks. However, with limited resources, we can only carry out a limited amount of work."
