Hate to keep jumping to Basketball, but any final word on roster (McCarter) & Asst. Coach staff. Schedule looks good I am excited!!! Season ticket info should go out in about a month or so.

A few weeks and College football is in full swing. Just wish there were more home games!

Nothing new on Chazz. I have an alumni assoc. dinner on 8/21. I'll see if I can get any more info. I agree, MBB recruits look solid. I just hope we can keep them as our retention history isn't too great.

On to another matter...I'll try and find news on the expanded football field and improvements to the other fields. I hate to keep bringing the Evil Empire up, but that new indoor football facility makes me sick. Taxpayers payed almost $200 million between that and Renchler. All CCSU asks for is a small fraction of that and all we have to show is an inflated tent.

Today's New Haven Register said that Chazz has enrolled @ CCSU and has already taken courses. Unfortunately he is academically ineligible to play this year. His grades were okay, but his S.A.Ts were not high enough to qualify. The Register's source for this story is the Hillhouse coach. Chazz had the prep school option available but, as he had earned credits during the summer session, chose to stay here. According to the article Howie cannot comment on Chazz, since he is still considered "a potential recruit." The Hillhouse coach really praised Howie and also Chazz's decision to play here. Chazz has enrolled for fall courses and could be declared eligible for the 07/08 season if he meets the academic requirements. Thanks to Dan Dempsey for tipping us off to this article.

That's good news. All sources indicated he was comming to CCSU, and the lack of official info seemed to be becasue of NCAA issues. I think its great he took summer classes to help his academics. Great for Howie and the team to build that relationship, even if he decieds to prep.

Just one question, if he were to take classes at Central in the fall, does he lose a year of eligibility? In essence can he officaly sign with CCSU and just redshirt this year? I think he is what you call a "partial qualifier" which means he could play in the second semeseter (January)if his grades are good.

Larry, FYI - I think the indoor/practice facilities for UConn football were paid with private donatations. Very little, if any, public money went to their training facilities. The Rent however, was a $94 million gift from Connecticut taxpayers!

Thanks for the info on the UCONN indoor facility. I thought the Burton family only paid about 10% and the rest was all state.

Now...does CCSU have any rich alum?????

he would not be eligible to play second semester, he is a non-qualifier, not a partial one. If can earn the year back if he earns his degree in 4 years and then play as a grad student in his fifth season.

Good point JJ. Maybe we should just let the chips fall where they may regarding any recruit. The NCAA loves to pick on schools like CCSU and gives the big boys free rides.

(Does computer theft mean anything to anyone?)

So It is confirmed that he is at Central...that's good. Is being a 5th year senior (instead of Grad) possible since he has 4 years of eligibility?

Let's just be careful talking about a specific kid, especially about academic issues that may be personal in nature. No official word yet, but it sounds like McCarter is at Central for the summer and likely fall semester to take classes. That is very good news.

Maybe a general question is - do non-qualifers out of HS get 4 years eligibility? Must they prep first?

What is the eligibility difference between a "partial quailifer" and a "non-qualifer"? Are these both considered "Prop 48" athletes?

Its a very good thread, I just don't want to see us break any NCAA rules or get too specific into any student athlete's personal records (SAT scores, grades, etc).

:)
