On April 1st, 2001, The 12th Anniversary Show Illinois Marble Meet took place in Ottawa, Illinois, Home of the Historic Peltier Glass Factory. For days prior to the show, room trading happened at Super 8 Motel. The actual show was presented at Koolie's Banquet Hall, located just blocks from the Peltier Plant. Approximately forty vendors participated. It was like a marble collectors dream come true with so many marbles available. Also, locals brought in found marbles for appraisal and for sale.

Just inside the door of Koolie's, visitors were greated by Gino Biffany of Ottawa and his marble display board. (Display board pictured in some very popular marble books.) I spent some time looking at the marbles on that board, talking with Gino, and gaining more insight about Peltier products.

One of my favorite things about marble shows is: they provide an opportunity to view contemporary marbles along with old marbles. Artists: Roger Coons of Stardust Studios, Dale Danowski, John Hamon Miller, Drew Morris, Chuck Pound of Sirius Marbles, and Chuck "woodchuck" Smith were all present for selling their creations. What better way to buy marbles than directly from the artists?

David Fordyce was showing samples of some old, Chechoslovakian machine-made marbles. Michael Cosentino of Marble Showcase was offering his marble display & storage products. Marble Polisher, Fred Leuenberger was demonstrating his polishing techniques.

Venues, like this one, are fun for the whole family and bring a great deal to the marble collecting hobby, in general. On a personal note: some of the best marbles I've ever found were right there in Ottawa, Illinois, last weekend....That gives me another reason to get excited about marbles! Special Thanks to Hosts: Gino & Randy Biffany for putting on this event! I look forward to next year! Support the marble meets in your area!
