Hi Fellow 553 Members:
Just a quick note to wish you guys a Merry Christmas. I can't name all you guys or rember all of you either.But you know who you are Mac,Cortland,Phil,Bill,and many more.
I am glad that we lived thru our experiences in Viet Nam and have had so many years and years of holidays to celebrate. To the unlucky soldiers who did not make it back we have not forgotten you. You will always be rembered by us that served with you. To my buddies in 5th platoon I was and I am proud to have served with you. You are the greatest Merry Christmas.

Just found your site and am really surprised. I have searched the web numerous times over the years and never saw it before. Anyhow, I was with the 4th Plt of 553 from 3/70 thru 2/71 out of Dong Ba Thin. At the time we also had a platoon in Da Nang and Plieku. Some my friends were Jim Holdman, Carl Morrow, Brian Cook, Cleve Molitor, Wagner, Pharris and Hernandez(came in when the Big Red One was rotated out). Welcome home all. Sorry I didn't hear about the reunion - if another comes up I'll see you there.

553 float bridge company 1967-1968. Worked the motor pool nick name was greaser. went on many convoys with the mighty bridge trucks (gas). Retiring at the end of the year and would be very interested in helping with the 2013 reunion,

Hi Benny. Dont rember you or many others from my old unit but I do rember that night that MSG Hooper lost his life and I think I saw him take his last couple of breaths. A fine person he was and he will not be forgotten!! I was Lt. Peu's driver and we were the first responders to the bridge that night and we went straight to the south side. I think 3 KIA's and some wounded I do remember one wounded with his finger shot off under the upper bridge where MSG Hooper was laying on the south side. We built new bunkers on that end of the bridge and was attacked a few nights later and I was the one that was hurt trying to get the 50 cal to the north side ot the bridge as theirs had something wrong with it and we had an extra. Lt. Peu had put me in for a purple heart for that injury but nothing ever came of it. I tell you this only to try and assist you in remembering me. I rotated out on 01 April 1968.

I was with the 553rd from Oct. 66 to Sept 67 in Tuy Hoa. I was a mechanic and went on all of the convoys to repair bridges and vehicles. I went on a big mission to Da Lat July 67. The only names i remember are Sgt. McFarlen, Raymond Franchek,Carlos Santiago and Youngblood.I may have been caleed Victor, Tony or Fech.

I was there from July 13 1969- July 10 1970. I was the 60 gunner on our captains jeep. I did convoy security. 4th blatoon road runners. I remember Blankenship driving the gun truck. Bennet drove it before Blankenship.

Hello to all the guys in the 553rd FB Company in Dong Ba Thin.------ I drove the gun truck Road Runner most of my time in VN... (1/70-12/70). I have a DVD that was taken from 8mm film that I took while in country. It has several clips of the roads we rode and some in company area.. 553rd Engr Co (FB) -- Frank Weddle, 11:06:56 12/09/12 Sun

I was with the 553rd from Nov 68 till Aug 69. I"m the one who cheated like a SOB to make sure everyone in the company got the R&R they wanted. I can remember removing Article 15 papers from several 201 files before they reached finance as new men processed thru personel. One thing I remember about Tuy Hoa was the beach. I about drowned in the undertow. Got caught up in it and took me Half an hour to get back to shore. When we went to Dong Bu Thin I got attached to 589th in Phan Rang. I was proud to belong to the 553rd. It pissed me off when they reassigned behind my back in 69. Bless you all and can anyone remember who bite off that chopper guy`s ear?

The 553rd is having a reunion next year in Las Vegas. So far there is about 25 vets from our company that want to attend. I'm looking for more. Also looking for Benny Morgan from the 553rd. I was with 553rd in Viet Nam June 1966 -1967. I don't remember any ones that I serve with, but I hope some one remembers me. I have some Question about what happen when we were there. I came in at Siagon, then CRB, and Qui Nhon, we were on the road to alot of places that I can't remember. Ive been back for 46 years and just started talking about it for the first time.

Hi,

I think we met and when you told me your first name I called you Mario. I was in Tuy Hoa from Nov.66 till Aug. 67.
I was a master mechanic and was constantly on convoys going to the locations that had bridges. My tent was next to the officers tent. My platoon Sgt was McFarland. Did you know him. There was also Sgt Hooper. My last mission was to Da Lat did you go there. Only names I remember are Franchek, Santiago and Youngblood.

Hi Victor, I was drop off at a aid station in CRB with 864th just before going to Tuy Hoa after coming back from Qui Nhon I think, because I don't remember how I ever got there, or why I was drop off.But I know that we drove our 5 ton trucks everywhere, and took a ship to Qui Nhon from CRB, and from there, I can't remember.I do remember that we had only a E-5 Sgt, and he was black, he was in charge of our convoys. thanks Mauro

hello all 553 eng guys. Just searching for 553 on the net. I was in the 553rd before the war we were stationed in ft. polk la about three months then ft. polk was closed down . So we moved the company to ft. campbell Ky. We arrived about the middle of march 59 i only stayed in 553 until august I was 4th platoon support platoon. But had a good experence. If somewone would answer my message it would be good.

I was with the company july "66-67. I first arrived Qui Nhon when my platoon, the 2nd or 3rd, memory is'nt what it used to be. I arrived camp the day after the wind storm flatten most of the tents. I can still remember the going to Phu Heip on the ship that carried our bridge trucks. I am trying to locate Alex Bicklemeir, Ted Gray, George Rivera, and Hernandez, can't remember first name. Sure would like to hear from you Guys.

Hello, you don't know me but I had a brother that was in the 553rd Float Bridge Support Platoon in 1966-1967. I just got off the phone from him and thought i would check this out. He does not have a computer but I can give you his address so you might contact him on what you know and remember and just talk about those years there. I don't think he knows of this site. Happy New Year to all VN vets,,, Guess for the ones reading this we should consider ourselves lucky. There are a lot of vets that are gone and more leaving at a fast pace... I was in the 553rd Eng. Fb. in Dong Ba Thin Jan. '70-Dec. '70.I drove Gun Truck 'Road Runner' most of the time I spent in country.. Had a lot of great buddy's while there and have located several in the last few years.--- We lost one of our gun crew in 11/11... Cancer finally took him.. His name was Wayne (Cliff) Stine from Fl.. Please let me know if anyone is getting this message.... How many from the 553rd are getting on this website?? Thanks Bill for setting this up. Lets get the word out to anyone that you know from the old company. Need to get Pat Blevins on here, We both live in Calif and not to far from each other. Did anyone get an e-mail from someone looking for a picture of a guy named Dennis??? I remember the name but can't place the face. Got a e-mail from Mac in Mich., said he was having back problems and might have to cancel. He was the first to talk about this reunion, so lets wish him well and hope that he can still make the trip. He lives in Texas now and I called him after we started talking about this reunion. He said he also might try and make, just need a little details as far as time and date. I am trying to piece things together. Mac, there was a supply sgt. who each got a 1/2 day off as our birthdays were both in August, only a few days apart. This supply sgt. got ahold of some ice and we got drunk and fell asleep on the beach. Mac, this would have been August 1968. Are you the supply sgt. I was with??? Thanks a lot. Everyone else thank you for this site. I am interested in Las Vegas, just depends on exactly which weekend. Will do everythin I can to make it. I have asked everyone this question. Does anybody know the 1st name of the Indian guy we called Chief? I think his last name was Herrington or Harrington. I was in Nam from March 1968 to October 1968. Well , I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to you guys.I hope that this letter finds all of our 553 Brothers well. I can rember our Christmas in Viet Nam and how we depended on each other to get thru the holiday season. We did not have any big trees or fancy presents but we had other 553 members to celebrate our Christmas Holidays with. I can also rember being on our perimenter that day and being relieved to go have Turkey dinner at the mess hall thanks to General Westmoreland. Well again , Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Well this last week was a great time for me and I hope that all of you that showed for the reunion enjoyed it also. I'm sorry that I had to leave early, but as all of you knew I had to get out to Arizona to see my dad. Made a bad mistake by going back home thru the middle of Nevada. Tried to get into Calif but all the roads had chain controls and I didn't have any. I ended up in Reno and spending the night there. Still had to buy chains in order to get into Calif. I got home around noon Sat. Once again I want to thank all of you for getting togather and bringing back a lot of memories for me.

I got a call from Cortland Parker tonight to let me know that Sylvester Newman had lost his Father. I had talked to Sylvester just week and he told me that he was going down the next day to visit his Dad. I understand that his dad was 91 years old, so he would of had a long and great life. I sent a message out a few days ago as to when I would be in Vegas, but it didn't show up on the board, so I don't know what happened. I,m planning on getting there either
Sunday evening the 26th of Oct., or on Monday the 27th. Its day by day for right now. I will try and get in touch with Newman this coming weekend and hope to get him out here with us. To all of us, keep in touch as to any changes made in this reunion. We have a few days in that week to play with.

I reserved a room at the San Remo Hotel for the 27th,28th,29th,&30th in Las Vegas hoping to see you all there. I think on the internet the price was thirty-five dollars a night. I am looking forward to seeing some of my buddies again.I was barely eighteen when I went to Viet Nam and some of the older guys kept me out of trouble in the platoon.Well they must of done a pretty good job because I came home in one piece. Well almost! WE had a tight group in fifth platoon and did alot of different jobs.Some good and some bad. Hope to see you in Las Vegas the last week of October , good luck and get there safely. Any word from Mac, as how is his back is doing????As it stands now I will be taking the week of Oct the 12th to the following Sunday off. I would like to get all or anyone to togahter some where in Las Vegas or nearby for a few days so that we can bring back old memories and thoughts. 553rd 1966 -- Lynne L Bourne, 02:47:26 08/14/03 Thu

I was with the 553rd from April-1966 through November-1966 as a 12B20. I drove a bridge truck, burnt shit, raided the beer lot at Cam Rhan Bay, helped maintain the floating bridge at CRB, we moved around a lot, and built floating bridges. Lets see, I remember: Robert Bell, Cook (never swore, cheated on his wife VA I think, Wilson, and I have some pictures. Las Vegas would be fun, but time off from work might be a problem. Lamar sounds familiar, but 37 years takes it's toll.
I will look through my military collection of orders & such.

Hey Whats Up
I just wanted to say hi to all of our 553 Engineer Brothers. I can't thank Bill enough for putting this web site together. I also want to say hi to Phil,Mac,Cortland,Bill, and Jim and all of our 553 Engineer Brothers. I would not miss this re-union for anything.I served in 5th platoon from Oct.1967 thru Oct.1968. sometimes as a jeep driver for the platoon leader/platoon sargent.
Last year I met Cortland Parker in Missouri and we had a mini re-union.I am hoping that Phillips and I can get together before Oct. we live about 100 miles apart. I was in Missouri when he called and missed his phone call. I have also had contact with Lieutenant Fontaine one of our platoon leaders.
I guess that we have travled full circle. I can rember after we got out of the Army and it was not cool to mention that we had been to Viet Nam. It is almost like the American people wanted to forget the war.We the soldiers were always patriotic and served our country proudly and honerably.

Been talking to a friend of mine from Calif that was in the unit same time I was....Don't remember you. I was with the 553rd the 21st of August '67 until the 25th of March '69. The first year in the 3rd platoon and then the rest of the time in the supply room in the arms room as company armorer. I've kept in contact with some of the guys, it's too bad we can't get together, it's been way too long! Hopefully I'm gonna be in Vegas the week of the 19th of October, sure would be nice if some of us could get together. I'm from central lower Michigan. If ya get the chance, answer this email maybe we can get more guys inerested in this page.
