In reply to: silver2 's message, "David Warner is Doctor Who!" on 08:04:32 05/05/03 Mon

I believe some of us had a discussion about this very role a while back. Now it's happening. Great news! Thanks for posting!

HRB! Good to see you again! Thanks for the news Silver2! That's so awesome! I wasn't in on that discussion, but, come to think of it, DW will make a *perfect* Dr. Who! I might finally become a fan of the series. (Coincidentally, one of my other favorite actors, about whom I'm just putting the finishing touches on a fansite, Cyril Cusack, turned down the role when it was first being cast back in '63. Guess I'm drawn to those Dr. Who types. ;-))

But ...

"David brought his own particular qualities and talent to the role and made the part his own - even if it's only for this one story'"

Only for this one story?? Are they planning to recast the role for each film? Are they trying to give everyone a chance at it or something? Why wouldn't they want to keep the same actor for all of them? (I may only become a temporary Dr. Who fan then. It's the Timothy Dalton/James Bond thing all over again.)

But the big question is: Will DW get the girl too?? ;-)

GMTA - I always thought the only real problem with Dalton was the scripts kept undercutting him. It wasn't that he was too dramatic; the stories were too soap-opera. He had a certain intensity that the Bond of the novels had (as far as I recall from reading them). What a shame.

From what I've read and my husband can figure, he's one of many Dr. Who number Nines who all exist in parallel universes. It's a licensed sub-franchise but apparently they didn't pay enough to show him wearing the scarf!!!!! Where's the fun in that?!?!?!?!? They just post a pic of him looking more like Jeffrey Jones in Ed Wood than one of the proper Doctors.

Your mention of a picture got me to go finally and look at that website (I just assumed the message was a repost and didn't bother to actually check out the URL) and realized--the new Dr. Who thing is only an audio recording. :-( Not that I don't love DW's audio work, but I thought there was going to be a new Dr. Who *movie*! Now *that* would've been awesome.

And that picture of him is awful! They've altered it so much it barely looks like him. He does look like Jeffrey Jones! Scary!

"GMTA"?

I'm glad you agree! I thought I was the only person who liked Dalton as Bond. I never understood why he was so unpopular. I haven't read the books, but I liked his intensity.

Great minds think alike!

All the girls I meet who've read the books remember that line in Diamonds Are Forever about how Bond has ice gray eyes and, so it says in the book, when he makes love they blaze like diamonds. The book Bond is not a funny Bond.
