First of all I would like to say that I speak for myself and what I believe. What other Satanists believe may be very different from me, or not. I apologize for not responding quicker to your post. Things have been very busy. I decided to ask other satanists their opinion on this. Their answers are below. I also decided to look up a few definitions in the dicitonary, also below. But before you read on I would like to say I respect you words but I also disagree with them, reasons stated below. These may be Pagan holidays but they are not solely pagan holidays. Like stated below we do them differently. I am a Satanist. I personally believe in many gods and that Satan is a god but he's not a Christian creation but an older god. For example Lucifer and Pan have been merged with Satan but they existed long before Christianity. Satan is not a fallen angel, He is in oppostition to the Judeo/Christian god, but so wasn't the godess Diane. I would first like to start out with the definition of Pagan.
WEBSTERS NEW WORLD DICTIONARY:
Pagan- A person who is not a Christian, Muslim or Jew. A heathen.
Heathen- Anyone not a Jew, Christian or Muslim, especially those who worship many gods.
STUDENTS WEBSTER DICTIONARY:
Pagan- Heathen.
Heathen- A person who is not a Christian, Muslim or Jew.
MERRIAM-WEBSTERS COLLEGIATE ENCYCLOPEDIA:
Pagan- A person who is not a follower of Christians, muslims or Jews.
ILLUSTRATED OXFORD DICTIONARY:
Pagan- A person not sunscribing to any of the major religions of the world.
Here are what other Satanists have said.
1-Even though the RHP of Paganism celebrates these holidays, they have a
different format. I always knew them to be Satanic holidays as well, with a
different focus, of course.
2-I would wonder why someone would be telling a Satanist what holidays we
should celebrate or not?
I would say that any Pagan holiday is game for any Satanist. If the
Satanist wants to add to that list more power to them. Given what I
believe is the gnostic core of Satanism, we look awfully silly
ridiculing someone for dressing up their beliefs a little differently.
3-Lughnasad: July 31st, Day of the celebration of being the predator
> not prey.
>
I have always known LHPers to call this Lammas
4-would wonder why someone would be telling a Satanist what holidays we
> should celebrate or not?
>
I agree which is why most Satanist organizations do not make a big deal out
of addressing them - we have had a lot of questions on this - so I was glad
Deidrui did. I would agree that all holidays could be Satanic. I would say
Black
Friday - is probably the most Satanic of all - can anyone guess why?
hehhehehe
If you would like to discuss this further with Satanists and Pagans, both LHP and RHP here is a good website for that.
