I have seen a camera in the stalls at the Barbican during a BBC transmission - it was used to film to announcer and the pundit (made them look like part of the crowd instead of an elite ... hmmmm) and the whole kit and caboodle used up a dozen seats or so. However, much of the orchestral stuff was filmed using remotely-operated cameras.

Last year I was asked by the BBC to stand to one side (I was on the rail near the centre) so they could see the soloist from the camera by the fountain. When one has queued a long time to get this sort of position, it's a bit much to be asked to move.

All part of the international conspiracy against tall people.
