I'm just impressed that someone complaining about "illiterate substitutions[s]" should need three goes at spelling Britannia!

I think the point that Andrew is trying to make is that in some people's opinion /will/ implies choice whereas /shall/ relates to a mandatory obligation. Modern usage, however, is such that /will/ and /shall/ are, in general, interchangable.

Actually, both /will/ and /shall/ are correct in Rule, Britannia!; iirc, one is used in John Thompson's original poem and the other in the original libretto for /Alfred/
