The intact Fantasia is a somewhat lengthy piece, and conductors have often tended to play excepts from it rather than the entire thing � this practice still persists at such auspicious events as The Last Night of he Crystal Palace Proms.

As I understand it, the only cut that is conventionally made at the BBC Proms is the first four minutes, a rather disjointed series of fanfares. Including it which make all the brass too tired to give a convincing �Conqu'ring Hero�, and makes everybody else impatient for the piece to get going.
