Would it, perhaps, not be more appropriate to choose a poem by a Scottish poet, if there is one with an arrangement by Wood and a nautical connection? I can think of a possible contender, James Thomson (1700 - 1748). Born in Scotland where he grew up in a country environment until attending Edinburgh University after which he moved to England. His poem, the Seasons was the basis of Haydn's Oratorio, performed last year (1.25 times :-)

He did write another poem and it was arranged by Henry Wood and it does have at least a tenuous nautical association.
