Complete guesswork, but I wouldn't be surprised if the choral second half is Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky Cantata.

Prokofiev is bound to be one of the "themes" of the season given the anniversary of his death in 1953, and Alexander Nevsky is the sort of roof-raising choral crowd pleaser to stick in the 2nd half of the first night.

At risk of being controversial - I hope not. While Slatkin is accomplished in Prokofiev, no doubt the BBCSO would murder it, with the characteristically unexciting underpowered underplayed, dare I say dull-as-ditchwater style they invariably bring to this sort of "big-blow". Which is a great pity given how good the BBC Symphony Chorus are - no lack of commitment there....

Sorry, in vociferous mood today owing to hearing the BBC Philharmonic playing this very piece in Manchester last night, in the way it should be done - i.e. total commitment and drama, and truly raising-the-roof in the plentiful big moments.
