I was at the BP Prom last year, and I believe I was one of a very small number of regular Prommers there. I sat on the floor a few rows back in the Arena (the children are generally smaller than me - and don't look too shocked at that!) and there were no problems (other than my falling out with a steward over taking my (small) rucksack into the Arena and some toe-rag stealing my limited edition Wimbledon 2000 cushion - not bitter...).

I don't think you need to arrive very early; my recollection from last year was that I arrived about 1030. The Arena was empty for most of the concert, but at the end when they release the balloons it fills up quite a lot (the steps from the stalls are not closed off).
