Its taken someone of the quality of Simon Rattle to achieve status for the CBSO and a few years of great playing for the BBC Phil. All I ask is that now that the Halle is under a good conductor and gave a very good concert under him at the start of this season, that is would get some acknowledgement in this forum. I would like to think as a result of my "stirring it up", I have achieved that aim.
As to the CBSO, while I agree that its a great orchestra and I did indeed enjoy last nights concert, I would have to point out that the coda of the finale depends quite a bit on the "balance" of the Trumpets in their "big moment". That was not quite achieved last night, at least that was the way it sounded on the Radio. By balance "in this case" I dont mean the overall loudness or softness in relation to the orchestra but in relation to each other. I have an old Halle, (sorry), recording with Barbirolli and they sound "dead level" with each other. Doug Yeo Bass Trombone of the Boston Symphony, (name dropping again), said that where Brass instruments play with equal volume the overall effect is more powerful, (effective).

Finally, (I hope), perhaps the person who said it is not where and orchesra comes from but how it plays etc. So with that in mind, lets start some support for the RPO and perhaps the BBC Concert Orchestra, yes? No?

Now where can I hide......
