Owing to a lack of substantiated rumours, I thought I'd provide some based merely on idle tittle tattle and the shakiest of real info:

I'll be slightly surprised if Verdi's Requiem doesn't show up (2001 is the centenary of his death); would have been a (perhaps too) obvious first night candidate were it not for last year's move away from the one-grandiose-choral-work first night format.

It doesn't take a genius to speculate that Slatkin may well do some major US work or other (Bolcom's "Songs of Innocence and Experience" maybe; a bit ambitious/esoteric but it's possible).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tortelier and the BBCPhil do some Kodaly (Concerto for Orch, Hary Janos) and quite likely the Proms premiere of Lili Boulanger's "Faust et Helene". Just speculation though (and I'm usually wrong at least 50% of the time).

BBCNOW/Chorus/Hicox to do Mendelssohn (sp?) "St Paul"? Not my cup of tea, but looks possible.

As usual I have a wish list, occasionaly something comes up:
Mahler 8, Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky, Khachaturian's 3rd Symphony, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, Howells' Hymnus Paradisi, and most of all Vaughan-Williams' Sea Symphony (which seems to have been banned).

I'm having trouble believing there's only 3 months to go 'til the programme is published once more. Time flies.......
