Subject: First year 1555 exile contest

Hi

Just had to try out the new map. First thing I noticed is that I could only place 3 gold mines whereas I could place 4 in the audition map. If anyone knows how to put more please tell. I played the first year and then went back and am playing it again.
As in the audition there were 2 goods that could be traded profitably. I could import 2500 each of copper and wood and sell both at a profit. In fact there is the opportunity to sell 6500 of each good at least in the first year. So I set up a trading station just inside the game with 2 wharehouses one each for wood and copper. I then imported 2500 of each good. I then sold 2500 copper and 2000 wood. The other 500 wood I sent to a getting storage yard by the monument. This resulted in a cost of 6375Db and a income of 8025Db with 500 wood thrown in for free. I also set up a work camp and carpenters guild by the monument to start on that asap.
I also set up a palace and the 3 gold mines with a large number of houses by that area.
So now I am in july 1555 (first year) with no unempolyment (around 365pop) and 2400Db in the bank. What is my next best move? Do I concentrate on building my city , getting my prosperity up (as that may be my downfall score - I have only once got to 100 PR in a cleo game) or do I use my money to import lots of weapons and build my army to take advantage of the 100 points for invasions. I have saved my game here because I think its a good position. However I owe 3500Db to the nice people who sent me 3000 Db. Should I or shouldn't I have taken this money?
As far as I can see I should be able to make the 1700+ trading profit for each of the 8 game years. The question is how much I can get from the gold mines. Where I had to put the palace to get the closest to all 3 mines some of them will not be 100% effecient because of the distance they have to travel. Is it possible to store the gold in a storage yard and then deliver it to the palace once a year? I don't know this answer.

I can't see any other way to make money as we can't collect taxes. Is it possible to get a double income blessing in cleo like in C3 so I could double that trading income one year or not. If so how do you do it?

Lots of questions but the more you all can help me the better I can score. I can follow instructions but I just do not know this game well enough.

Please answer in this thread about the first year so we can all keep track of what happens in each year. I think a different thread for each game year would be great. Just click on reply to message instead of starting a new thread. trying to get the hang of this forum as it works slightly different from any others I have been in.
