I remember one pseudo-British sounding one-hit wonder in particular, the Knickerbockers. Their song "Lies" sounded almost like a Beatles out take. It's still in heavy rotation on my personal MP3 player list. I don't know that they had any pseudo-British hype or look, but they had the Mersey sound down cold. A later one-hit wonder, the Count Five, managed to sound almost exactly like the Yardbirds with their only hit, Psychotic Reaction. That's another "hit" on my personal MP3 player.
