Subject: "Old" oldies gone from Pittsburgh radio

The rumors are true and 3WS has dropped the Sunday Night Oldies Diner after many years. That was the last vestige of pre-Beatles music on 3WS and lingered even after the station transitioned to "classic hits" and moved the music forward to a '70s-'80s base. The time is now being filled by replays of "American Top 40."

So with the previous demise of WJAS, it would now appear that, with few exceptions, '60s music has disappeared from the Pittsburgh airwaves, at least on mainstream stations. WJPA in Washington still has some '60s songs in its regular mix and has specialty programming on weekends. WBVP in Beaver Falls has an exceptionally deep '50s-'60s show on Saturday afternoons. But for the most part, the "old" oldies are gone.

The realities of demographics are at work, of course, but it's still the end of an era.
