The Mike Douglas Show. Jim Backus (Mr. Magoo, Thurston Howell III) appearing with young cast members from the recently launched Welcome Back, Kotter (Robert Heyges, Ron Pallilo, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs) schooling them on the ins and outs of the TV biz. Explaining how, even though Gillgan's Island at the time was one of the most widely broadcast syndicated shows on earth, it did not make him a dime because contracts when it was shot stated the actors only got paid for the first four runs. Told them to be grateful to SAG for negotiating a better deal and that they would always receive some sort of residual, no matter how far into the future Kotter might run. Shared lots of other bits of wisdom about his time in show business.
