I went to PSU McKeesport back in the day of Jeff Christie. He would come over to the campus and give talks to some of us who wanted to start a campus radio station. He was thin, had long hair and a little on the liberal side. I can still remember him telling us that his idol was Rege Cordic because Rege had a natural voice for radio. Not put on like some of the Disc Jockey School grads and sports casters. He was also aware of the 'button pushing' on the car radios and said that in order to make it in the radio industry, you had to get the people to listen to the DJ and NOT the music. KQV's Jim Quinn was his competition. Christie said that in order to succeed in the business, you had to be unique. He certainly did that with the Rush Limbaugh persona. At the time, I remember the country was mostly liberal. It was Christie/Limbaugh who was partly responsible for 'turning the herd'.In one listeners opinon. I still remember him giving us boxes of promo records to get the station started. I was the music director. Shout out to Rick Toretti and Tom Lemack, two guys who spearheaded the WPSM Penn State on campus radio station.
