Both KQV and WIXZ had signal issues, especially at night. Probably a lot of listeners went with whichever sounded best in their part of town. In my case, that definitely was KQV (and WZUM). After WIXZ adopted an oldies-heavy format in late 1970, I made more of an effort to listen.

13Q sounded better than either in most of the city, especially after an unfortunate accident at the tower site forced them to get a waiver from the FCC to broadcast nondirectional at night. :)
