I worked with Jack Wheeler at KDKA and hired him for mornings when I became PD at WEEP. WEEP's AM (then the more listened to band)sign on time varied from month to month and I believed the station needed to provide a strong reason for listeners to remember to tune in. Wheeler's WEEP show was a formula of half callers and half music and did just that. Listeners remembered to tune in to hear what would go on each morning. Wheeler made a difference and was a big reason the station did so well, which lead to a PD gig in NYC for me a couple years later. At that point, WEEP was so happy with Wheeler that they dropped country music and went all talk.
