Subject: Prozac and weight gain Author: Cindi [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 20:25:10 12/28/04 Tue I have been on Prozac for about a year and a half. I should also mention that I have hypothyroidism which has been controlled by medicine for quite some time now. In this year and a half I have gained 30+ pounds. My shrink says it is very rare to have weight gain on Prozac because it is an approved appetite suppressent. He has increase my dose from 20mg a day to 60mg a day to help curve my appetite. My appetite has decreased since I was first put on Prozac but I still keep gaining. I did the Atkin's diet during the summer and lost 8 pounds in 6 days and began suffering from constint heart palpations and was told by an ER doctor to quit the Atkin's diet. I'm knocking at 200pounds and I'm scared to death to hit that mark. Does anyone out there have any advise weather to continue taking the Prozac? My mental health has gotten better but on the other I'm so unhappy with my weight that the depression starts to override the Prozac's benefits.
