Cindi, i'm a pharmacist and i don't know a soul who lost weight when on prozac longterm. it's normal to lose a little in the beginning, but many people gain that plus a lot more with use longer than several months.

when my doctor suggested i try an SSRI antidepressant, i chose lexapro b/c it was one of the newer ones and wasn't supposed to cause weight gain. well, 6 mos and 31 pounds later, i proved them wrong! i had twins in 9/01 and was back to w/i 10# of my pre-preg weight within weeks and stayed that way until i started the lexapro a year later. now, almost 2 years after stopping it, i've only lost 8 pounds. i was actually down 19 pounds doing Weight Watchers religiously, but i let my hectic schedule get in the way of that.

i wish i had an answer for you. some people have luck with wellbutrin or effexor which both work differently than the SSRIs. i know several people who have been on them for years and have lost tons of weight...one has lost 45# doing nothing! i'm seeing my doc again tomorrow about my migraines (original reason for taking lexapro) and will discuss those two meds with him. he's suggested them in the past, but i was too afraid i'd gain more weight.

good luck to you.
jill
