This is for everyone gaining weight on SSRI meds. I gained 40 lbs. while taking Paxil for 6 months. After quiting it took me about two months to BEGIN losing any weight, but I eventually made it back down to normal. Then I took Celexa. Gained 15 lbs before quiting. Then I took Effexor. Same thing. Finally, I saw a psychiatrist (not a family m.d., not an internist, not a psychologist) and he admitted that most SSRI meds can cause weight gain. I am now taking Wellbutrin, which is wonderful with no weight related side effects (it's not an SSRI). If anything my appetite has decreased. Also, in order to jump start my weight loss my psychiatrist prescribed Topamax, which seriously cuts your appetite, but only works for a couple of months. Ask about it.
