I am an active duty Marine and was placed on Effexor for Major Reccurent Depression at the end of Feb by a civilian mental health provider. I wasn't told of any side effects, let alone any withdrawl symptoms or addictive natures of the prescription. At any rate, my weight was 140 lbs when I took a physical 7 Feb 03. As of today, it is 168!!! almost 30 lbs in less than a month!! I have made an appointment with both the mental health provider as well as my GP Doctor to get back to my healthy weight and off this stuff immeadiatly! Now, instead of fighting depression, I have to battle obesity! Shame on all Doctors that prescribe these kind of medications without disclosing the side effects. Being an active duty Marine this has a LARGE IMPACT ON MY JOB AND LIVELY HOOD. I have not been eating irregular and I exercise regularly.....thank God my command is working with me on this issue, otherwise I could loose everything...after 16 years and 9 months, and already facing discharge due to depression - THIS IS HORRIFYING!!
