Subject: Le Conte's Sparrow

During my usual morning walk on my property in B.G. (near Otsego Park), I scaredthis bird up about 10 feet from me. It just sat there for a couple of secounds then flew to a weed about 25 feet away. I could clearly see the 2 dark bands on the top of the head and the orange color of the breast. The orange color had light streaking. Contrast between orange and white belly was very pronounced. This bird was very cooperative.

The habitat is a weedy area with small trees and shrubs about one acre in size (total weedy areas on my property are approx. 5 acres but this area is in my front yard). There was a lot of other bird activity around the Le Conte's including White-crowned, White throated, and Song Sparrows, Yellow-rumped Warblers and Palm Warblers.
