2:06 to go - Rice makes the strip- Yale has the ball at midfield...Sheffield had the catch, but o/o/bounds...yale 1st at the 29 yard line...short time left...yale to the 21...pass to Balsam, incomplete...4th and 1 after Thomas's run...Witt has done well so far...flag on the play...probably holding...refs talking- Yale ball on the 10 with one minute left...TD FOR YALE - nice catch by A.J. Haase...Yale 23 to 22 with 58 seconds left...up to Yale D right now...52 seconds left...gotta watch #4...YALE INTERCEPTS!!! Brackett tried to force it... No shame on the Columbia side; TURNOVERS KILL YA!!
A couple of second tier teams playing a thriller!! Wish I'd been there!!...

Yes, I was there and it was a very exciting game that Columbia came that close to winning, but those two fumbles at the end of the game were killers. Paul Rice is a terrific player for Yale--definite pro prospect. He should go in the first couple of rounds. As for the Lions, they played their hearts out and their offense was outstanding in the second half under the leadership of a very good freshman quarterback named Sean Brackett. He is a terrific athlete with a very bright future. Same for running back Leon Ivery who broke one for about 75 yards.

Basically, our program is a joke, I can't remember such a demoralizing loss, although Cornell about 5 years ago at home comes to mind - the team collapsed.

Maybe Columbia needs to use these resources in another place. Why bother having a program - does it reflect positively on the school?

For what it is worth, I tore up the remaining tickets - why attend a game that we have no reasonable chance of winning.

Even though we had some good performances by Hackett and the RB - when both of them fumble the ball at a crucial part of the game - that hurts. Honestly, I thought we had no chance of losing, but Columbia finds a way.

Most students in the Ivy league could not care less about football - so there is one problem. Columbia athletic administrators - do they help us? The student athletes on the team - where do we find these guys? We seem to have a penchant for fumbling at the worst possible moment. The coachs - talk big - but what is the final outcome? I supposed that the administrators will keep Wilson for another 2-3 years - with the same results, then we'll start the same cycle all over again.

Guess Fohei is right - what is the point?

Coach Williams spoke very highly of Brackett after the game.

Ex-Lion Fan, I can understand your frustration and demoralization, but you simply should not give up.I am NOT a lion, and have no reason to say this except as I believe it - you are GOING to have a really good team in the next few years. Actually, your coach has produced a bloody miracle. I never thought Columbia football would even see a competitive day. Now I KNOW they will. You have a GOOD coach and he WILL make the Lions competitive. He was almost there this year and the team is beat up by horrendous injuries. There's no administration conspiracy, I am sure of it. Your AD -she is tough and smart, I have seen her in action. It's hard to recruit top players to Columbia, mostly because of where it is situated. It's an urban school, the stadium is at a distance, the culture of the place is a little different - much more hip, urban, trendy, intellectual. But your coach is doing it. Look at Chandler - he was ready to give up on Yale earlier today and stated that Yale couldn't set the bar any lower. Yale fumbled at some pretty bad moments too and was sacked plenty too. He gave up too soon. Don't do the same. The point is - even though it must be frustrating, I believe you would be crazy to give up now. Columbia will get there in the next few years and these players are showing that. It's been a VERY hard climb but you ARE climbing. The FEEL of the games is that you are, even if you are losing these games. If you can get two recruits like that freshman QB and RB you are going to be OK.
