I can understand being frustrated about the Lions. But, anyone who has followed this program over the years can't deny that the Lions put more quality FB players on the field this year than they have in a very, very long time.

Sure, there were some very unfortuante flubs at critical times yesterday. But, the Lions had a freshman QB playing his first minutes at the collegiate level (and looked really good) and the team made many really good plays.

Also, let's realize that if Yale hadn't changed QB's and Witt hadn't played as well as he did (nearly perfect) the Lions would have won despite the mistakes.

As to Witt, if this kid can play like he did in the 2nd half Yale will have one of the best QB's the Ivies have seen in years. I don't know why he got benched earlier in the year, but he has a very strong arm, is very accurate (a rare combination in the Ivies) and an amazingly quick release. If I were a Yale fan I would be thrilled to see a QB play like Witt played yesterday...

I've posted a couple of times before, but some of my points bear repeating. First, the only reason Lion fans defend Wilson is because they like him as a person, which is fine. I think talk of firing Ivy coaches is ridiculous on its face, but many of you like to call for these guys' heads. If you look at it honestly, Wilson's first recruits ARE seniors and none of them except for Knowlin has performed up to the level of Quinn, Hormann, Brekke, Mitchell, Abrams, Quarshie, Rocholl,Crawford, Fletcher et al that were recruited by Shoop's staff. And it can certainly be argued that Shoop didn't produce talent like Reese and many others recruited by Tellier's staff. So let's not get carried away about the talent level on the field. It's down from where it was under Shoop, and that was down from where it was under Tellier.

Second, let's not rewrite history either about competitiveness. Shoop won at Princeton and at Fordham, beat Harvard, Dartmouth, and Cornell as well. Those teams also lost heartbreakers to Cornell, at Penn, and at Yale. So there were more wins and about the same amount of close losses as this group has produced, and I would argue against much stiffer competition. Tellier actually (gasp) had a WINNING SEASON!! This staff came close with a group of players they didn't recruit.

If you could somehow look back at the archives and read the posts about M.A's first playing time and Rangel's it would read almost word for word what you guys are saying now about Brackett and this freshman RB. Just becuase they play and have moderate success doesn't mean they're anywhere near as good as the players on the other teams. In my opinion, they're not. But I could be proven wrong over time as they develop. But I would definitely take the kid from Dartmouth over any RB we've had since Reese, so I bet that we'll see we just have more average guys.

Finally, the fauning over roster size has to stop. Even in Shoop's "reign of terror" there were over 100 kids in camp. Maybe more quit under Shoop during the season than under Wilson, but who cares? Did anybody ever quit who was playing in the games? I think not. The same number quit over the long haul as they do everywhere else. I'v said it several times, count the seniors on the really good teams. There are nowhere near the 30 that came in to camp as freshmen 4 years ago. Most kids quit, no matter where you are. The fact that Wilson evidently treats his scrubs much better than Shoop treated his is very admirable indeed, especially in our league. But giving a coach extra time to win becuase of it is beyond my comprehension. Make up your minds: Do you want a win at all costs program? If you do, Wilson is clearly not your guy. He can't acquire the talent to compete, and can't manage the games well enough to win. If you a want a team that plays really hard for its coach and has kids on it who seem to be having fun and a good college experience, then keep him.

I really don't care, I'm going to support the program no matter who is involved, but the revisionists and apologists on one side pitted against the venom spewing FBS wanna bes talking out of both sides of your mouths wears on me after a while.

No, Wilson's first recruits ARE juniors.

All of the arguments the poster cites have been made on this board, including the roster/attrition point. Obviously not all in this discussion thread...
