It turns out that the difference maker in the women's meet came in the pole vault, where D, Pa, and Pr all had the sixth-best height, but the D and Pa women made it on their first attempt, thereby splitting the point for sixth, whereas the Princeton woman only made it on her second attempt, and got nothing. The Tigers also slipped from third to fourth on a tiebreaker in the high jump, which was a two-point loss. Penn dominated the track, Princeton the field, but the Quakers improved just enough in the latter from previous years to squeak ahead.

Astoundingly, this last-relay flip was a duplicate of the finish of the indoor Heps. The odds against this twice in the same year must be in the hundreds of millions.
