Heading into OT, 7-7. Penn defense has been outstanding; Brown scored on an INT returned for a TD. Brown has missed 3 FGs. Brown defense also has been outstanding.

The wind may be a factor in Penn's favor, as it has hurt Brown's passing game.

Just got back from Providence. A terrific game. Warm afternoon, episodically sunny, gusty winds. Penn yielded a TD on an interception returned all the way. Otherwise, the Penn defense has not yielded a point in 10 quarters of play. The best Penn defense I've seen since 2002. Both teams seem to have come away with no additional serious injuries, which surprised me considering the quality of hits I saw by both squads.

Penn wins 14-7 in OT. Penn scored easily on its possession, and Penn's defensive line was dominant in a four and out for Brown.

Curiously, it looked like David Howard did not play on Brown's defensive series in OT.

Congrats to Penn -- that is one hell of a defense.

Howard's jersey ripped in the 4th quarter, and he had to borrow a teammates (#94). So maybe that's why you thought he wasn't playing?

All credit to Penn- they totally outplayed Brown today. The Brown defense was phenomenal as well, thwarting promising Penn drives left and right, but the offense was utterly futile. I haven't looked at stats yet, but I doubt we surpassed 200 yards today. Newhall was awful all day- terrible decision-making, off-target passes, and he was either too hesitant to get rid of the ball or was too quick on the release. The running game was very effective in the extremely limited portions of the game it was allowed a chance. Whoever calls the plays for Brown really blew it today- the passing game was getting us absolutely nothing while the running game was consistently dominant, and yet we kept throwing until the bitter end. Penn took away the pass but not the run, and we didn't exploit that. This was probably our downfall. I don't fault the kicker for any of the FG misses; one was blocked and the other two were directly into the vociferous winds.

Any time your defense limits the other team to 7 points while recording 4 interceptions, you just shouldn't lose. And yet Brown did exactly that today.

Congrats again to Penn; that was a spectacular performance! But Brown really shot itself in the foot with the play-calling, and some very questionable calls hindered the Bears' progress or kept Penn drives alive as well. However, again, Penn certainly deserved this game more, regardless of officiating.

Just looked at the stats:

-Brown had 304 yards, and threw for 241 (where was I for that??)
-The rushing game only gained 63 on 21 carries (Newhall had a lot of no-gainers that probably attributed to this statistics, but Tronti was great all day- in both the passing and rushing games)
-The crowd is listed as 9,400+. Does anyone else who was there think that is grossly exaggerated? I was only estimating about 7,000 or so plus a few hundred on the Penn sideline...

Jimmy Develin was a MONSTER today!

The Brown offense had the wrong game plan. What is hard to understand is why they didn't change it when it obviously wasn't working. Brown rushed the ball well but only on occassion did they try to run. They were constantly 3rd and long because the first two plays went for no yard passes or incompletions. The final statistic of 1-13 3rd down conversions says it all. Newhall had a bad game. On a least two occassions he overthrew Brown receivers who were free in the endzone. But he might not have had a bad game if they ran it more. Brown was way too predicatable and Penn was well prepared for it. Not totally dissimilar to the first 3 quarters of last week. In the OT Brown looked beat. A disappointing loss for Brown and a great win for a very good Penn team. Now it is on to Yale, also a great defensive team, with nothing to play for. At this point a very good Brown team is at the crossroads. They can either play to their potential and win out or crumble under the disappointment of another tough loss. But in either case, congratulations to Penn for an outstanding effort and to Bagnoli, who today outcoached Estes.

Wow!!! I didn't see that coming. I really thought Brown was the best team in the league. Congrats to the Penn Quakers on a huge win. Looks like Harvard is on cruise control, but you never know.

Newhall had an off day and Penn was the better team on Sat. and deserved the win. I'm of the opinion that Penn, Brown and Harvard are pretty equal. A Penn win over Harvad would not surprise me at all. Penn has a great D line and some very good receivers. I think I might drop the Wildcat. That said, Brown had plenty of chances to put up a win, a few bad Fg kicks (wind was a factor) and a couple of overthrows to open receivers in the end zone. I don't think Sewell was 100%. Nonetheless, Penn earned the win.

How about that Tight End Luke Nawrocki! He catches everything thrown at him so hopefully they continue to look his way even when TE1 comes back. He's only a soph and will get better and better. Just call him Jason Avont because all he does is catch first downs.
