All credit to Penn- they totally outplayed Brown today. The Brown defense was phenomenal as well, thwarting promising Penn drives left and right, but the offense was utterly futile. I haven't looked at stats yet, but I doubt we surpassed 200 yards today. Newhall was awful all day- terrible decision-making, off-target passes, and he was either too hesitant to get rid of the ball or was too quick on the release. The running game was very effective in the extremely limited portions of the game it was allowed a chance. Whoever calls the plays for Brown really blew it today- the passing game was getting us absolutely nothing while the running game was consistently dominant, and yet we kept throwing until the bitter end. Penn took away the pass but not the run, and we didn't exploit that. This was probably our downfall. I don't fault the kicker for any of the FG misses; one was blocked and the other two were directly into the vociferous winds.

Any time your defense limits the other team to 7 points while recording 4 interceptions, you just shouldn't lose. And yet Brown did exactly that today.

Congrats again to Penn; that was a spectacular performance! But Brown really shot itself in the foot with the play-calling, and some very questionable calls hindered the Bears' progress or kept Penn drives alive as well. However, again, Penn certainly deserved this game more, regardless of officiating.

Just looked at the stats:

-Brown had 304 yards, and threw for 241 (where was I for that??)
-The rushing game only gained 63 on 21 carries (Newhall had a lot of no-gainers that probably attributed to this statistics, but Tronti was great all day- in both the passing and rushing games)
-The crowd is listed as 9,400+. Does anyone else who was there think that is grossly exaggerated? I was only estimating about 7,000 or so plus a few hundred on the Penn sideline...

Jimmy Develin was a MONSTER today!
