I wish I had some faith in Brown, but I am too much of a realist. I listen to Perry on the radio this week, and he was as upbeat as ever. I suppose that is a good thing, but I prefer he be honest. The team's performance this year has been a big disappointment. It's even worse when you remind yourself that Brown beat Harvard, who has at least won a share of the championship. So, what happened to Brown? For one thing, Wilcox was simply bad. He threw one interception after another. It was a case of "he should have moved on to Morgan Stanley last year". Brown had one good receiver, Mark Mahoney, but they didn't have any game breakers like those from Yale, Columbia, and Penn. They really missed Rockett and Graham. And while Perry loves to talk about the tremendous fight of both lines, he fails to note that for the most part it was a losing battle. The Defense never threatened the opposing QB and the offensive line did improve, but not to the point where they dominated anyone. The loss of Reed was critical, but no one took up the slack. There is no getting around it, Brown's failures fall directly in Perry's lap. The situation at Columbia was lightyears worse than Brown, yet by year 3, Al Bagnoli achieved an 8-2 record. Why? Because Al Bagnoli knew what he was doing. Al Bagnoli was a great coach at every level he coached. Perry was a great player. But as a head coach...
