In reply to: Floridared 's message, "Cornell wins men's lacrosse Ivy League title" on 19:58:13 04/27/24 Sat

Tremendously successful D3 coach who never quite panned out as I thought he might.

I am not sure Mike resigned. I think he was asked to. At any rate, it is interesting to note that he was highly successful at Tufts but only mediocre at Brown. No doubt it had a lot to do with the fierce competition for top level players. Some 40 years ago Brown always excelled at Lacrosse, but in those days many of the ivy teams did not attempt to field championship teams. They field participatory teams. Thus, Brown was successful. But all that began to change in the 1990s and now lacrosse is a highly competitive endeavor. Perhaps even more so than baseball. Mike's record at Tufts says he really knows the game, but recruiting is the name of the game at the D-1 level, and Mike just didn't measure up. As a Brown alum, it is encouraging to see Calhoun act quickly. For too many years, ineffective coaches have been allowed to continue to the dismay of all who care, especially the players. Now she has to turn her attention to Whittet, Achilles, and the guy coaching men's tennis. By the way, Brown has not won an ivy tennis match in years, and this year they only won one individual match...an embarrassment to all involved.

I would expect the search will focus on Div 1 assistants on the staffs of some of the better lacrosse programs.

I think this is the first time Cornell has hosted the Ivy League Tournament at Schoellkopf Field. Weather looks good tomorrow in the 60's to mid-70's range.

Princeton vs. Yale at 6 pm
Cornell vs. Penn at 8:30 pm

All on ESPNU.

Go Big Red!
